2005

I am browsing the little record shops in Shanghai, when I come across some very interesting Jazz CDs, among them John McLaughlin and Shakti, Dexter Gordon, Pat Metheny and Miles Davis. Beautiful packaging with posters and all about 20 RNBs (=$2 approx). As you would expect I buy everything that is available (at that price?). Now thats what I call a real stroke of you know what. Who would buy the Shakti album in Shanghai I cant begin to imagine, unless its this bearded guy who walked in and came from god knows where.

2003

Alas Toones in Allentown has closed so I have had to make do with Internet and Best-Buy. Instead of buying a lot of new stuff,  I have been listening to all my old CDs and occasionally picking up the odd new one. I have bought rather a lot of John McLaughlin's Old CDs and also many of the Shakti CDs. One or two new ones have been the Jarett's Inside Out and others but they lack the freshness of the Koln Concert. Also interesting has been 'Busted Stuff' by Dave Mathews. I saw a live concert of Mathews, while channel hopping  in the Holiday Inn and liked the sound.

1998

I have aquired about 20 new CDs in the last 3 months mostly bought in the US where they are so much cheaper, however a twist of fate leads to the following story.

Our Neighbours in Epsom are getting on in years, and recently Mrs Parry (May god bless her) passed away and we had the pleasure of meeting their son Roger. During one of his visits to our house he could not help but notice that I liked Jazz, as that was all he heard! Now it became apparant during the evening that Roger's company has a majority share in JAZZ FM the London Radio station. So a few days later Roger appeared at our door with a box with about 20 Double CDs all published by JAZZ FM!!! This means that my collection has improved significantly.

Roger, If you ever see this then please accept my gratitude. We will have endless pleasure listening to all the Dinner Jazz albums, the Latin, Soul and Blues CDs and many more which are now part of my collection.

Among the ones I have recently aquired are Couple of Bill Evans (Everyone Digs Bill Evans & Waltz for Debbie), Couple of Monk (& Coltrane), Andy Shepperd's marvellous Learning to Wave, and some Keith Jarrett (My Song) and Jan Garbarek. I have also got the Antonio Forcione's excellent Ghetto Paradise. This last one is brilliant, if you like John McLaughlin type music.
